Sometimes you want to offer downloadable content, like forms or PDFs, directly on your website. Clinic Sites doesn’t currently support a built-in file manager, but there is a simple workaround that allows you to upload a file and link it to a button on any page of your site.
How to Create a File Uploads Page and Upload a PDF
The steps below will walk you through creating a hidden File Uploads page for your files and uploading a PDF.
- Click the Quick Add
button in the top-right corner and click Page.
- Name the new page File Uploads.
- Scroll to the File Downloads section and click the Add File Attachment button.
- Click the Choose File button and upload your PDF.
- Scroll down and toggle off the Published box so the new page is hidden from public view.
- Once you've uploaded your PDF, click the Save Page button.
- Once the page has been created, scroll down and find the newly uploaded file under the Downloads section.
-
Right-click the file link and select Copy Link Address from the drop-down (browser wording may vary). This is the link you’ll use in your button with the Downloadable File Attachment.
How to Link the PDF File to a Button
Now that you’ve copied the PDF link, you can attach it to a button on any content block on your site.
- Navigate to the page where you want to add the download button.
- Click the pencil icon
to edit the content in the block where the button will appear.
- Scroll to the Button one text field (or Button two text field), and label your button something like Download Informational Form.
- In the Button Link field, paste the PDF link you copied earlier.
- If you want your download to open in a separate window, toggle on Open in new tab.
- Click the Update Block Element button to save your changes.
How to Upload Additional PDF Files
Even though your File Uploads is hidden from public view, you can continue adding more PDFs there at any time.
- Click Admin in the top right-hand corner and click Content.
- Hover over your File Uploads page, click the circle with the three dots
, and click Edit.
- Scroll till you reach the File Downloads section and click the Add File Attachment button to add more files.
- Once you've completed your PDFs, click the Save Page button to save your changes.
Nice, you're all set! You’ve successfully added a button that links to a downloadable file. This is a great way to provide patients with extra information in a well-organized manner.
